Project Summary

During the course of my 10 months I will be working with a local organization that empowers survivors of sex trafficking with the opportunity to heal and recapture the most basic of human rights: freedom and hope. They use holistic and innovative solutions to provide a safe environment where girls can heal through intensive trauma therapy, life skills training and learn viable, sustainable job skills. While there, my project will be to help lead a community outreach program that will seek to identify common risk factors leading girls to being lured into sex trafficking, as well as support local villages in the implementation of programs, resources, etc. that will serve as preventative measures to keep the younger generations from falling into the same traps. Additionally, I will take an intensive language course in the beginning of my time in Cambodia to study the native language, Khmer, so as to ensure a more thorough and successful cultural immersion.
